Privacy policy
The short version
- TapGuide works entirely on your phone. It has no account, no servers, no ads and no analytics.
- The app does not have internet access, so it cannot send your guides or screenshots anywhere.
- It reads what you tap only between Record and Stop, and never reads passwords, PINs or what you type.
- Your guides leave your phone only when you export a file and choose where to send it.
Who we are
TapGuide is developed by Kouidev (“we”, “us”). For any question about this policy or your data, write to [email protected].
What the app does with your data
TapGuide turns the taps you make while recording into a step-by-step guide. To do that it uses the information below. All of it is processed and stored on your phone only. We never receive it.
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Labels of the buttons and fields you tap, their position on screen, and the name of the app and screen | Only between Record and Stop | To write each step (“Tap Internet on the Network & internet screen”) and highlight the right place |
| Screenshots of your screen | Only between Record and Stop, one per step | To show each step |
| The name of a field you type into | While recording, if “Record typing as steps” is on | To write “Type in the IBAN field”. The text you type is never read or stored. |
| Your list of installed apps | When you open the block list in Settings | So you can choose apps that are never recorded |
| Photos you pick | Only when you add a screenshot step yourself | To add that image to your guide |
| Your settings and guides | Always, until you delete them | So the app works as you set it up |
What the app never reads or stores
- Passwords and PIN fields. Recording pauses on those screens and a placeholder step is added instead.
- The text you type in any app.
- Anything outside a recording.
- Apps on your block list.
- Screens that apps protect from screenshots (many banking apps). Those steps keep their text only.
Permissions and why we ask for them
Accessibility service
TapGuide is not an accessibility tool for people with disabilities. It uses Android's Accessibility service to know which button you tapped and what it is called, so it can write each step for you. It does this only while you are recording, and it reads only the information listed above. We explain this in the app and ask for your consent before you turn the service on, and you can turn it off at any time in Android's Accessibility settings.
Screen capture
Android asks you each time you start a recording whether TapGuide may capture your screen. While it does, a notification and a floating bubble stay visible, and you can pause or stop at any time.
Notifications
Used for the recording notification, which also has Pause and Stop buttons.
No internet permission
The released app does not request Android's internet permission, so it cannot connect to any server, ours or anyone else's.
Sharing
We do not collect, sell or share your data with anyone, because it never reaches us. A guide leaves your phone only when you export it as a PDF, Markdown or HTML file and choose an app to send or save it with. What happens to it then is up to you and the app you chose. Blur you add is burned into exported images, but please check every export before you share it.
Storage, backups and deletion
- Guides, screenshots and settings are stored in TapGuide's private storage on your phone, which other apps cannot read.
- They are excluded from Android cloud backups and device-to-device transfers.
- Settings → Delete all data removes every guide, screenshot and setting immediately. Uninstalling the app does the same.
Features that are coming soon
Some features, such as share links, sign-in, backup and AI-written steps, are marked “Soon” in the app. They are not active and send nothing. Tapping “Notify me” only counts your interest on your phone. If we add any feature that sends data off your phone, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent in the app before it is used.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Like any website, the company that hosts it may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for a short time to run and protect the service. If you email us, we use your message only to reply to you.
Children
TapGuide is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly receive any data from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or UK GDPR), you have rights to access, correct, delete and port your personal data and to object to its use. Because all app data stays on your phone, you can exercise these rights directly in the app: view and edit your guides, export them, or delete them. For anything else, contact us at the address above. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be shown in the app before they take effect.
